I began my research by exploring companion apps that I was already familiar with, such as the Steam mobile app and RUST+.
I listed notes for what each app allows you to do, highlighting that Steam enhances your account security with two-factor authentication. Additionally, it enables you to perform all the same functions as the desktop app, conveniently from your phone.
RUST+ allows users to connect various in-game electronics that can be easily registered within the app, sending notifications to alert them when their base is under attack. Additionally, it enables players to view the server map and see the real-time locations of their online and offline friends.

When it came to deciding what my companion app would be for, I chose to create my app for a game in the 'Creature Collector' genre, like Pokémon.
In my early design concepts, the companion app will feature four main pages:
- The Home page (serving as the central hub for users)
- The Community page (where users can connect and share experiences)
- The Bestiary page (showcasing a detailed collection of creatures)
- The Account page (allowing users to manage their personal settings and information)
